About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 10 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, Crisis Protocol Approved Must-Have: Critical care background preferred Description: The unit has 8 main beds and 12 pavilion beds. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 during transitions. Experience with Cerner EMR is preferred. There is a rotating charge nurse who will also take patients. No nurse aides are present in this unit. Weekend call is not required, but 24 hours of call is expected. Holidays require 24-hour call as well, but this is not mandatory. Scrub color is provided by the facility. Telemonitoring is handled through Phillips. Ventilators are only used in rare, emergent situations as most patients go directly to ICU. There is a hospitalist or intensivist available in-house. Respiratory therapy is on-site 24/7. Pharmacy is available from 7:00 AM to 10:30 PM in-house, with additional coverage from a satellite service. Shifts available include both 10-hour and 8-hour options from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Floating to other areas is not required but is possible for those with the appropriate skills. Specific orientation is conducted with a preceptor. Common patient diagnoses include all post-operative cases involving general anesthesia, including orthopedics, gynecology, urology, ENT, general surgeries, and cardiac lab patients. Critical care patients are routed directly to ICU post-recovery. Anesthesia is available 24/7. The hospital has a cancellation policy allowing up to 4 shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment, and 3 shifts for shorter assignments.
