Police Department - Police Chief

This job is a good fit for an experienced police officer who understands the needs of a small town and is comfortable taking on a leadership role while staying actively involved in day-to-day police work. The Chief of Police will lead the department, handle administrative duties, oversee operations, and build strong relationships within the community. This is a "working Chief" position, meaning the person will not only manage the department but will also help with patrol duties and respond to calls when needed. The position offers a competitive pay and benefits package, with a starting salary between $55,000 and $58,500 depending on experience and qualifications. Also the City of Clever provides a take‑home vehicle. Minimum Qualifications Must be certified as a police officer in Missouri (POST certified). Willing to serve as a hands‑on Chief of Police who actively helps with patrol duties and responds to calls when needed. Leadership experience is preferred. Must understand Missouri laws and regulations. Must communicate effectively with community members, city officials, employees, and outside agencies, both in person and in writing. Must live within 20 miles of Clever, Missouri, unless city officials approve of an exception. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Position opened until filled.
