Job Description

The Pouch Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring pouch‑making equipment to produce high‑quality packaging that meets strict customer and company standards. This role involves performing machine adjustments, inspecting products throughout the production process, and working collaboratively in a cleanroom environment. The ideal candidate brings manufacturing experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced production setting.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor pouch‑making equipment in accordance with production specifications and standard operating procedures.
• Review work orders and verify all product requirements before starting production runs to ensure accuracy and readiness.
• Perform machine adjustments to maintain product quality, production efficiency, and throughput goals.
• Inspect pouches throughout the production process to ensure they meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
• Monitor seal integrity, pouch dimensions, print registration, and overall pouch appearance, documenting findings as required.
• Conduct detailed quality checks by making multiple measurements per pouch and recording results for traceability.
• Identify defects or nonconformities and communicate findings promptly to the machine operator or relevant team members so issues can be corrected.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and adhere to cleanroom protocols, including proper use of PPE and handling of materials.
• Use hand tools, tape measures, and inspection equipment to perform measurements and adjustments accurately.
• Read and interpret blueprints, production documents, and work instructions related to pouch‑making and packaging requirements.
• Work with films, foils, chemicals, peelable solutions, and other engineered flexible materials in a controlled environment.
• Support general production activities, including packaging, packing, and inspection tasks, as needed to meet production targets.
• Troubleshoot basic machine and process issues, escalating more complex problems to appropriate technical personnel.
• Collaborate effectively with coworkers in the lab and on the production floor in a team‑based environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Follow all lab and cleanroom rules, including restrictions on fragrances and phone use, to protect product integrity and safety.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in manufacturing, production, or general labor within a fast‑paced environment.
• Hands‑on experience with machine operation or machine operating, preferably in packaging or pouch‑making processes.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic machine adjustments and troubleshoot routine issues.
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and working in cleanroom or controlled environments.
• Ability to perform detailed inspections, including measuring seal integrity, dimensions, and print registration.
• Proficiency using hand tools, tape measures, and other basic inspection and measurement equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting strict quality and customer specifications.
• Effective communication skills to report defects, collaborate with team members, and follow instructions clearly.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while performing repetitive measurements and quality checks.
• Comfort working with films, foils, chemicals, and peelable solutions in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Ability to follow cleanroom protocols, including proper use of PPE and adherence to lab rules such as no fragrances and no phone use.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a production operator, machine operator, or packager in a regulated or healthcare‑related manufacturing environment.
• Experience in general production, inspection, and troubleshooting of packaging equipment.
• Prior exposure to medical device, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, or life sciences packaging is beneficial.
• Experience working in a team‑based environment with both lab personnel and production floor staff.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new processes and equipment quickly, including cross‑training for future roles.
• Interest in developing into leadership or advanced technical roles as opportunities become available.

Work Environment

This role is based in a cleanroom and lab‑based production environment with structured shifts: 1st shift runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and 2nd shift runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. New hires train on 1st shift for approximately 4–6 weeks before moving to their assigned shift. Work is team‑oriented, involving close collaboration with lab coworkers and production personnel on the floor. A significant portion of the day is spent seated in the cleanroom, performing multiple measurements per pouch during quality checks alongside several team members. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and steel‑toed shoes are required, and strict cleanroom protocols apply, including no fragrances and no phone use in the lab. The environment involves working with films, foils, chemicals, and peelable solutions, following all safety and regulatory guidelines while maintaining a professional, quality‑focused atmosphere.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Addison, IL.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.05/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
