The Richardson School is seeking a Therapeutic Counselor to support students across our Appleton and Sheboygan campuses!

The Richardson School is an alternative placement option for local districts to access for their students with significant needs and behavioral concerns. Our students are typically diagnosed with a combination of developmental or neurological disabilities and emotional, behavioral, or mental health disorders. The school calendar follows the typical 180 educational days with the opportunity to attend Extended School Year for students in need of this programming.

POSITION REQUIREMENT:
This position supports both Appleton and Sheboygan locations. Candidates must be able to travel between sites and be physically present as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive school-based counseling program aligned with the Equitable Multi-Level System of Supports (EMLSS), ensuring services are preventative, data-driven, and developmentally appropriate. Collects and analyzes counseling and social-emotional learning (SEL) data to support progress monitoring and guide tiered interventions.

Collaborates with leadership and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to align counseling strategies with behavior support plans and proactive prevention approaches.

Supports individual student planning, including transition services such as return to district, vocational planning, and graduation readiness. Coordinates activities such as career fairs and supports students in developing skills for academic, workplace, and community success.

Provides system-level support by assisting with implementation of PBIS and EMLSS initiatives. Collaborates with educators, families, and community partners to ensure continuity of care and effective communication.

Serves as a liaison between the school and external service providers, including social service agencies. Provides consultation to staff regarding student behavior, social-emotional needs, and data-informed decision-making.

Develops and delivers staff training on therapeutic approaches, trauma-responsive practices, and counseling-related topics.

Conducts self in a positive, respectful, and collaborative manner, demonstrating proactive decision-making that supports a safe and therapeutic learning environment for students.

Remains current with best practices in school counseling, trauma-informed care, and multi-tiered systems of support. Participates in required meetings and professional development.

Functions within legal, licensing, and professional standards. Reports any suspected abuse or neglect per policy and participates in follow-up as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Master's degree in school counseling, school psychology, school social work, mental health counseling, clinical psychology, or related field required.

Must meet DPI certification requirements and maintain appropriate licensure.

Experience working with students with disabilities, including IEPs, required.

Working knowledge of EMLSS, PBIS, or multi-tiered systems of support preferred.

Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care and therapeutic approaches.

Strong collaboration, communication, and data analysis skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

Ability to travel between Appleton and Sheboygan locations as needed.
