QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must meet the defined Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services Behavioral Health requirements; must self-identify as a person with lived experience in raising a child with a Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), Substance Use Disorder (SUD), or co-occurring mental health diagnosis. Must pass KBI, DCF child & adult abuse check, motor vehicle screen, and background checks. If the position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work purposes, the employee must have reliable, insured transportation that is properly registered and compliant with all applicable state and local requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Parent Peer Support is a service that provides support to parents with children who are struggling with SED (Serious Emotional Disturbance), SUD (Substance Use Disorder), or co-occurring conditions and is provided to support the stabilization of the patient and enhance the family’s quality of life.
- Use personal lived experience to offer hope, understanding, and encouragement to parents/caregivers.
- Provide individual and group peer support to parents and families engaged in mental health services.
- Assist families in navigating service systems, including mental health, education, child welfare, juvenile justice, and community resources.
- Support families in advocating for their children’s needs and developing effective communication with providers and systems.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to promote family-driven, youth-guided care .
- Help parents develop skills in self-care, problem-solving, and crisis planning .
- Maintain appropriate documentation of services in accordance with agency and funding guidelines.
- Participate in training, supervision, and team meetings to enhance skills and maintain certification.
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards consistent with peer support values and agency policy.
REQUIRED TRAININGS:
- LEVEL 1: Training toward becoming a Kansas Certified Parent Peer Support Specialist in Training (KCPPSST). IEP training through Families Together, following completion of Level 1 training.
- LEVEL 2: Training occurs after KCPPSST certification and a 90-day supervision period.
DIRECT SERVICE EXPECTATIONS: This position has a minimum service credit expectation and will be provided by your supervisor.
TRANSPORTATION AND DELIVERY: For work-related travel, employees must operate company or personal vehicles responsibly, in accordance with all traffic laws, regulations, and organizational safety policies.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular and punctual attendance is required and is an essential function of this position.
- This position requires the ability to operate a vehicle as part of routine job functions.
- This position requires the ability to use a computer and software as part of routine job functions.
- Employees are expected to perform duties at the designated work location stated in the offer letter unless otherwise noted by your supervisor.
- Attendance at in-person meetings and training sessions is required, even for remote or hybrid roles, as necessary, unless otherwise noted by your supervisor.
- Occasional overtime may be required depending on operational needs. Overtime will be compensated in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.
- This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs as part of routine job functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your Supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer.
