This position will cover Anderson (Garnett), Linn (Pleasanton), & Bourbon (Ft. Scott) Counties

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must meet the defined Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services Behavioral Health requirements; must self-identify as a person with lived experience in raising a child with a Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), Substance Use Disorder (SUD), or co-occurring mental health diagnosis. Must pass KBI, DCF child & adult abuse check, motor vehicle screen, and background checks. If the position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work purposes, the employee must have reliable, insured transportation that is properly registered and compliant with all applicable state and local requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  3. Ability to work independently in the community.
  4. Proficient with computers and word processing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Parent Peer Support is a service that provides support to parents with children who are struggling with SED (Serious Emotional Disturbance), SUD (Substance Use Disorder), or co-occurring conditions and is provided to support the stabilization of the patient and enhance the family’s quality of life.

  1. Use personal lived experience to offer hope, understanding, and encouragement to parents/caregivers.
  2. Provide individual and group peer support to parents and families engaged in mental health services.
  3. Assist families in navigating service systems, including mental health, education, child welfare, juvenile justice, and community resources.
  4. Support families in advocating for their children’s needs and developing effective communication with providers and systems.
  5. Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other professionals to promote family-driven, youth-guided care .
  6. Help parents develop skills in self-care, problem-solving, and crisis planning .
  7. Maintain appropriate documentation of services in accordance with agency and funding guidelines.
  8. Participate in training, supervision, and team meetings to enhance skills and maintain certification.
  9. Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards consistent with peer support values and agency policy.

REQUIRED TRAININGS:

  1. LEVEL 1: Training toward becoming a Kansas Certified Parent Peer Support Specialist in Training (KCPPSST). IEP training through Families Together, following completion of Level 1 training.
  2. LEVEL 2: Training occurs after KCPPSST certification and a 90-day supervision period.

DIRECT SERVICE EXPECTATIONS: This position has a minimum service credit expectation and will be provided by your supervisor.

TRANSPORTATION AND DELIVERY: For work-related travel, employees must operate company or personal vehicles responsibly, in accordance with all traffic laws, regulations, and organizational safety policies.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Regular and punctual attendance is required and is an essential function of this position.
  2. This position requires the ability to operate a vehicle as part of routine job functions.
  3. This position requires the ability to use a computer and software as part of routine job functions.
  4. Employees are expected to perform duties at the designated work location stated in the offer letter unless otherwise noted by your supervisor.
  5. Attendance at in-person meetings and training sessions is required, even for remote or hybrid roles, as necessary, unless otherwise noted by your supervisor.
  6. Occasional overtime may be required depending on operational needs. Overtime will be compensated in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.
  7. This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs as part of routine job functions.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by your Supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer.

SCHEDULE: Full-Time or Part-Time

SALARY: Hourly Wage
