About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 Year Required, First-time Travelers Must Have 2 Years of Acute Care RN Experience License: Active RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Traveler must have ACLS ability to read cardiac strips. Description: The position is for a Med/Surg Registered Nurse. The unit cares for patients awaiting transplant, recent transplant recipients, or those with a history of transplant. Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, altered mental status, DKA, among others. Patient ratios are RN: 1:5 for both days and nights. There are CNAs available with varying assignments per shift. Charge nurse may or may not have a patient assignment. Phlebotomy is available for peripheral blood draws only. An IV/VAT Team is available during the day, with minimal night shift coverage for line placements. A resource nurse CN is assigned on each rotation, and there is a head RN along with a PCC and educator on days. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 specifically for this unit. Clientist services are also available on-call overnight. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps used are Alaris, and medication dispensing is done through Pyxis. Travelers may be required to float to other units within their scope of practice. Weekend rotation includes every other weekend, with a scheduling structure of working 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Time off requests up to 7 days can be accommodated, but any full week requires an extension of the contract. Only one weekend off request is allowed per 13-week contract. There are holiday expectations to work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Scrub color is pewter, with specific t-shirt and jacket colors required. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
