The Office of Inspector General is the independent oversight body for Chicago’s approximately 500 public, contract, and charter schools. The Office of Inspector General is charged with the responsibility of investigating allegations of waste, fraud, and financial mismanagement in public education within the jurisdiction of the Chicago Board of Education. The Office's Sexual Allegations Unit (SAU) investigates allegations of sexual misconduct by a CPS-affiliated adult, including employees, contractors, vendors, and charter schools, where the victim is a CPS student and/or a minor. Job Summary Reporting to the Inspector General, the Deputy Inspector General, Sexual Allegations Unit will direct investigations and manage the OIG’s Sexual Allegations Unit which is tasked with investigating allegations of sexual abuse and/or harassment of CPS students by CPS-affiliated adults. This is a full‑time exempt position that will be paid for time worked based on a salary basis. Responsibilities Review and edit investigative summary reports Supervise, develop, and manage the performance of SAU teams, including managers, investigators and support staff involved in case intake, case management, special projects, report drafting, and case closing to ensure compliance with OIG and SAU protocols and practices Monitor assignments and track performance to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion in compliance with established quality control standards, provide guidance and support on concerns to ensure efficient operations Coordinate with outside law enforcement entities, child protection agencies, CPS’s Office of Student Protections, and others, as appropriate Analyze and interpret CPS policy and state and federal laws applicable to SAU investigations and projects Manage the drafting of presentations to the Board of Education concerning SAU matters Participate in developing office policies and operating procedures Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education Required Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Juris Doctor degree or advanced degree in a related field preferred Experience Required Minimum of seven (7) years of overall professional experience in investigations, government oversight, law enforcement, criminal/administrative prosecutions, ethics, labor/employment law, or other advanced legal writing experience Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity Complex investigative experience in one or more of the following areas: child abuse or endangerment, sexual harassment, and related fields preferred Prior government experience; experience in government oversight agency strongly preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to show leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to delegate assignments and tasks to staff efficiently while simultaneously monitoring the progress of multiple tasks Ability to interpret data and evidence thoroughly and correctly Advanced writer with the ability to draft reports and other written work product on schedule and with clarity Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality, with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels of a large governmental organization Health & Wellness: Your Care, Your Choice Medical Plan Options Pharmacy Vision Behavioral Health & EAP Employee Wellness Program Financial Security: Planning for Today and Tomorrow Basic Life Insurance Life and Disability Insurance Pension Plans Supplemental Retirement Plans (403(b) and 457(b)) Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) Spot Pet Insurance Work-Life Balance: Supporting Your Personal and Professional Life Competitive paid time off policies Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
