POSITION SUMMARY

The Specific Needs Medication Technician provides medication services, direct resident care, supports behaviorinterventions, and assists in maintaining a positive physical and psychosocialenvironment for residents. The Specific NeedsMedication Technician assists residents with activities of daily living,housekeeping, laundry, and other daily chores.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for thedaily operation of the medication room and medication services as directed by theHealth Services Director (HSD) and in accordance with physician orders, stateregulations and the nurse practice act
2. Processes physician medication and treatment orders in accordance with state regulations and the nursepractice act
3. Administers and assists with the self-administration of routine and non-routine medications in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and thenurse practice act
4. Completes simple treatments and monitors residents as directed by the HSD in accordance with physician orders, state regulations and the nurse practiceact
5. Support residents with behavioral health or cognitive needs, utilizing de-escalation and behaviormitigation strategies
6. Maintains accurate records of medication and treatment services provided or omitted, including controlled substances, in each resident's clinical record
7. Coordination with pharmacies for medication orders and refills
8. Reports all medication errors per policy. Completes notifications timely and all required forms
9. Reports and records changes in resident condition, incidents and accidents to HSD, physician and family member as indicated under the direction of the HSD. Completesall incident forms
10. Routinely communicates with physicians, pharmacies, outside services, residents, and familiesregarding medication and care services
11. Providesdirect resident care while promoting the resident's dignity, independence, andpersonal choice, regularly observes residents' physical and mental conditions and reports changes to health services leadershipor Executive Director
12. Provides care services as directed by the resident's cooperative service plan
13. Coordinates personal care services with co-workers assisting with lifting and responds to assistance pages promptly
14. Participates in care planning meetings and reinforces interventions to maximize resident abilities andinterests
15. Greets residents, visitors, and staff courteously, and in a manner that respects dignity, confidentiality standards, and promotes individual rights
16. Follows and supports community fire safety and infection control practices and promptly reports any unsafe conditionsor equipment to immediate supervisor
17. Serves meals in the dining room, assisting residents at mealtime, provides resident tray delivery, and assists with dining room and kitchen clean up andmaintenance
18. Assists in lifting, moving, and transporting residents using proper body mechanics or assistive devices as directed by the resident'scooperative service plan
19. Assists with tours, move-ins, move-outs, and transfers
20. Performs First Aid and initiates emergency response procedures per policy and state regulations
21. Properly stores medications and equipment and keeps the medication room clean and orderly
22. Removes outdated or discontinued medications to return to the pharmacy or disposal per policy
23. Attends and participates in training, in-services, and staff meetings
24. Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

One or more years of personal care experience with older adults preferred or as required by state regulations. Must hold state required medication pass certification or other required certification, complete state required delegation and/or trainingrequirements, and successfully complete the medication pass competency. Musthave current CPR certification, First Aid training, and Food Handlers permit asrequired by state regulations. Must complete all state required trainings.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
