GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Performs repetitive manual work in the performance of various physically demanding tasks. Performs basic work under either direct supervision or supervision exercised through frequent detailed inspections. Work performed is of an unskilled nature which does not require the employee to develop work methods or procedures. Supervisors check the work of these employees largely by inspecting completed assignments. Most work is performed out of doors and supervised by the Grounds Crew Foreperson.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Cut weeds, brush, and grass with power mower.

2. Rakes lawns.

3. Trims trees and shrubs.

4. Waters plants and lawns.

5. Performs various outdoor yard maintenance work.

6. Loads and unloads trucks.

7. Moves furniture, office equipment, refuse, garbage, and heavy supplies and equipment.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. May mix and handle insecticides and other chemicals.

2. May temporarily act as driver or crew for the University garbage truck.

3. May assist Irrigation/Greenhouse Controls Technician in maintenance and installation of sprinkler systems and greenhouse equipment.

4. May hang Christmas lights on campus.

5. May operate a variety of related equipment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The individual must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. Knowledge of maintenance tools, equipment, and practices.

2. Able to qualify for University driver certification.

3. Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.

No education required.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Experience not necessary; must be willing to learn and work.

This is a TEMPORARY position to start ASAP. Employees will be employed by and paid by Goodwill of Central East Texas Inc. This position is not hired by the state's office but rather, through Goodwill. Temporary position is through a state set-aside contract aimed at helping people with disabling conditions find employment.
