Summer Camp Substitute Counselor - DC - Penn Quarter Location : 733 8th St NW, Washington, DC 20001 Camp Dates : 6/15/2026 (Mon) – 7/31/2026 (Fri), including additional weekends for setup, breakdown, and orientation Camp Hours : 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (actual shifts may vary) Hourly Wage : $19.00 – $21.50 per hour, dependent on experience and qualifications At Steve & Kate’s, we put radical trust in kids so that they learn to trust themselves . Job Responsibilities Staff facilitate activities, make connections, and monitor safety and wellness. Roles include designing or overseeing activity spaces where campers self‑select activities, as well as rotating support roles throughout camp. Additional Responsibilities Actively supervise campers. Maintain organized and approachable activity spaces. Ensure compliance with Camp Policies. Report and record incidents or injuries to campers, staff, or self. Track camper allergies and dietary restrictions. Add daily updates and photos to camper profiles. Candidate Profile Enjoy guiding children who make their own decisions. Remain calm under pressure and calm those around you. Comfortable leading groups of children independently while collaborating with a team. Have stamina to keep pace with 4–12‑year‑olds and can lift up to 40 pounds. Passionate about sharing knowledge and learning new skills. Job Requirements At least 16 years of age. Minimum of 2 months experience working with children in the camp age range; 1 year preferred. First Aid & CPR certified prior to Day 1 of camp (additional certifications may be required). Consent to communication by email or text. May be asked to chaperone campers on off‑site field trips. Physical Requirements Comply with all safety and health rules. Organize and maintain clean and accessible activity spaces. Assist in camp set‑up and breakdown during move‑in and move‑out weekends. Stand for long periods while supervising children and facilitating activities. Participate in athletic games. Benefits Eligible for sick time as required by local regulations.
