Associate Mechanical Engineer – Industrial Buildings and Utility Systems Date: Jul 21, 2026 Location: Overland Park, KS Atlanta, GA Charlotte, NC Ann Arbor, MI (United States) Company: Black & Veatch Opportunity Type Staff Key Responsibilities Design, preconstruction planning, and construction support for mechanical systems in industrial facilities. Work with equipment partners to deliver the best technical solutions. Use design‑bid‑build and owner’s engineer delivery methods as required. Develop solutions for HVAC, plumbing, and chiller systems in manufacturing and related applications. Participate in energy audits, system performance reviews, and compliance calculations. Perform code review and application for facility compliance. Project Execution Develop mechanical quality plans and define requirements by area. Size and select equipment using utility summaries, layouts, and OEM resources. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program. Minimum of 1 year related work experience. Ability to complete pre‑employment background checks and drug screenings. Preferred Qualifications General understanding of building and utility systems. Experience with HVAC heat‑load calculations, energy modeling, and equipment sizing. Knowledge of submittal and bid review processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Markup tools (Bluebeam Revu, Revit, or CAD) and experience with ICC, ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA codes. Certifications Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) certification (in progress). Work Environment & Physical Demands This role is primarily an office position with periodic site visits that may require crouching, grasping, standing or walking for extended periods.
