As a SWME Project Manager and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the Survival and Thermal Systems section in the Engineering Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract. Possible straight time overtime and a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off) ** Responsibilities Perform project management for a spacesuit water membrane evaporator development project Manage the overall efforts related to systems engineering, project engineering, test engineering and logistics engineering Manage the project team and their activities Provide budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating support Monitor cost performance for the project against the established plan Develop and maintain financial reports Develop and manage project schedule Oversee the development of procedures, work instructions and process flows Manage project risks and opportunities and ensure that a structured risk and opportunity process is followed Assess how program level changes impact project requirements and execution Interface frequently with inter-organizational disciplines, NASA personnel, and vendors Work with the lead systems engineer to meet technical and performance goals Perform other duties as required. Required QUALIFICATIONS Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or related area Understanding of complex spacesuit, thermal control systems development and operations processes. Experience managing and leading engineering projects Experience with financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels Ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines Ability to work independently and autonomously and track tasks and issues to completion Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, environmental testing, and office software Preferred BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and nine (9) years direct engineering experience Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures Prior experience working in a system development project/program Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation. Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised. Essential Functions Work Environment - Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task. Physical Requirements - Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time). Equipment and Machines - Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.). Attendance - Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
