Physician Assistant

Job Summary

The Physician Assistant's responsibilities include working with physicians to provide professional services included but not limited to comprehensive medical care of patients by examining, diagnosing, and treating acute and chronic health conditions. Design a plan of care, with the patient, to promote, maintain and/or restore health. Perform various additional patient care actions depending on the diagnosis. Participate in medical direction to (staff) individuals providing direct patient care, assist in the education of staff in the delivery of patient services, and assist in responsibility for the supervision of the overall professional and clinical aspects of care rendered at the practice site.


Minimum Job Requirements

• Unrestricted Physician Assistant license.
• Current DEA registration
• Authorization to administer medication.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, and current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification OR must obtain upon hire through RQI before working clinically in the Emergency Department.

• Possess clinical skills, professional, physiological and emerging technical knowledge and proficiency in diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation procedures.
• Familiarity with HER/EMR programs.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administrations, providers, consultants, business associates and regulatory agencies presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital.
• Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
• Excellent time management, and organizational skills
• Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
• Highly developed computer skills to include the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to operations and job function.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• High degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with ability to effectively prioritize
• Ability to effectively perform job functions under periods of extreme stress and producing positive outcomes.
• Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.

Working Conditions

• Typical hospital and clinical environment with frequent standing and walking
• Work may be subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels.
• Exposure to potentially violent situations.
• Risk for occupational exposure to blood, body fluid and other potentially infectious, electrical and radiation hazards.
• Works with protected health information
• Works in close proximity to patients and visitors.
• Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, holidays and/or weekends based on the needs of the department.

Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment

• Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
• Requires the ability to handle highly emotional and highly stressful situations.
• Use of computers and other standard office equipment.
• Pushing workstation on wheels to patient rooms
• Lifting supplies and equipment typically found in clinical patient care areas.
• Operates equipment typically found in patient rooms.
• May assist patients with mobility both in and out of bed.
