Data Center Technician

Overview Join our dynamic AWS team and become a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure! You’ll help maintain the heartbeat of the world’s most innovative technology platform, ensuring seamless data center operations that power millions of businesses and services worldwide. This role supports AWS data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment, and requires operating in a 24/7 environment with frequent travel within and outside the regional work area. Data Center Technicians work independently or collaboratively, prioritizing tasks, communicating effectively, and reacting quickly. Your responsibilities will include hardware and network repair, equipment installation, documentation, and problem resolution within the data center space. Travel to established locations for training and to newly commissioned facilities is expected. Physical Requirements Regularly lift or move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds. Work in cramped and/or elevated locations, bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching. Stand and walk for up to 8+ hours a day. Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation. Work in a noisy environment. Perform shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations, covering both day and night shifts. Essential Requirements Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed. Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until the assigned facility becomes operational. Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of the assigned facility. Candidates must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute under 50 miles to active data center sites as required by business needs. Key Job Responsibilities Perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on components, and troubleshoot network issues. Respond to operational incidents that impact service availability, escalating to senior technicians and management as needed. Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors. Participate in on‑call duties and scheduled maintenance and change management activities. Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issues. Help train and onboard new team members. A Day in the Life You’ll take ownership of technical issues brought by customers, engage other teams when needed, solve problems at their root, and maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting. Your schedule will include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. You must have a reliable personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license to travel within the regional work area, as company transportation will not be provided. Basic Qualifications 1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience. Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays. High school or equivalent diploma. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of network design, protocols, and Layer 1/2 troubleshooting. Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Networking Engineering) or equivalent experience. Experience in a data center or other critical environment. Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
