Scope of Care: Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics

Responsible To: Radiology Director

Employees Supervised: None

General Definition and scope of Job: Perform radiological diagnostic procedures ordered by a member of the hospital Medical Staff as authorized by State, Federal regulations, and hospital policy and procedures. The population served includes infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Operates diagnostic equipment, develops film, and prepares the room with the necessary equipment and supplies for a procedure. Secondary duties include clerical duties, transporting patients, receptionist, answering telephone, scheduling patients, ordering supplies, stocking the department, maintaining files, and general cleaning. Assist the Director of Diagnostic Imaging with Quality Control, Performance Improvement measures, and conducting special projects.

Qualification:

Current License: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and Current Louisiana State Radiological Technologist License (LSRT)

Physical Demands:

  • Medium work-lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • The position requires lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
  • Balancing is required to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or when assisting patients.
  • Stooping, kneeling, and crouching will be necessary on occasions.
  • Speech and hearing is critical for communication with patients, physicians, and other employees.
  • Motor coordination and finger dexterity are required to coordinate eye and finger motions.
  • Clarity of vision.
  • Must possess the ability to work under physical and mental stress for various time length.
  • Shift work is required; variable hours; overtime may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Spends over 75% of time in environmentally controlled setting.
  • Department employees are considered as Occupational Radiation Workers (RADIATION EXPOSURE RISK).
  • The care of sick or infectious patients (INFECTIOUS RISK EXPOSURE - CATEGORY I).
  • The presence of blood and body fluids (BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN RISK EXPOSURE – CATEGORY I).
  • The presence of hazardous chemical (CHEMICAL RISK EXPOSURE – CATEGORY I).
  • The presence of hazardous gases (GASEOUS RISK EXPOSURE – CATEGORY I).
  • Tolerate verbal abuse from patients that are disorientated or combative.

Requirements:
  • General Education:
  • Completion of High School or GED.
  • Continuing education in the field of Radiological Technology or related fields.
  • Attend in services and meetings provided by the department or hospital.
  • Maintain current by reading radiology related articles.
  • CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certified.
  • Orientation to new equipment/procedures.

Standard Vocation Preparation:

  • Entry level skills are obtained at an AMA approved college or technical training facility in Radiological Technology, (2-4 year program).
  • Clinical experience prior to employment.
  • Orientation to the hospital and the department are given during the first week of employment and continues for thirty days.
