Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg

The Med Surg unit is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver comprehensive care to patients requiring observation and inpatient services. The RN will assess, prioritize, and manage patient care while collaborating closely with healthcare providers to ensure continuity and prevent readmission.

Shift Details

Day Shift: 0615 to 1845

Schedule: 3 days per week

12-hour shifts

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse will undertake the following essential responsibilities:

• Provide patient care within the RN scope of practice according to physician/provider orders.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, and evaluations of care.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and report abnormal findings to the appropriate providers.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely.
• Utilize electronic health records (EHR) for documentation, particularly within the Cerner system.
• Organize and document assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education using Care Compass.
• Offer age-specific nursing care, assessing and reassessing patient conditions as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, acting as necessary.
• Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
• Utilize the SBAR format for effective communication during care transitions.
• Adhere to infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support holistic patient care.
• Mentor and support the continuous learning of other nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or Emergency Room experience required.
• Previous travel experience is mandatory.
• Cerner EHR/EMR experience is required.
• Graduate of an accredited RN program.
• Current Colorado or Compact RN license.
• Current AHA BLS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current PALS certification.
• Basic computer skills and experience with electronic health records are essential.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The work is performed in a hospital setting, requiring the ability to manage work stress, deal with frequent interruptions, and maintain regular communication with patients and staff. This position involves lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and assisting with patient movement and positioning. Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, radiation, chemicals, and physical strain is to be expected.
