RN Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides specialized critical care nursing to pediatric patients requiring complex and intensive medical attention. This role involves managing advanced life support techniques, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse is expected to have at least two years of experience, with preference given to those with charge nurse experience and pediatric critical care expertise. Strong clinical skills, including airway management, ventilator care, and invasive line management, are essential to deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced critical care environment. Responsibilities: Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license with at least 2 years PICU or critical care experience.
• BLS and PALS certifications (mandatory).
• Experience with pediatric critical care procedures including airway management, ventilator care, and invasive line care.
• Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• NRP and CRRT certifications.
• Experience with ENT, general surgery, orthopedic, post-op/pre-op pediatric patients.
• Familiarity with advanced respiratory therapies such as chest tube setup and care.
• Experience with sedation and rapid sequence intubation drugs.

Special Considerations:

• Travel contract candidates must have been separated from previous facility for at least 3 months unless holding an active compact license.
• Floating to NICU or other units within skill set is required.
• Orientation provided prior to assignment.
• Weekend shifts required every other weekend.
• Return to Origin (RTO) for up to 3 days accepted for travel nurses; additional RTO days may result in screening.
• No holiday RTO allowed.

Scheduling:

• Self-scheduling available for permanent staff; travelers must meet unit staffing needs.
• Shifts include weekends every other weekend.
• Shift types and hours determined by unit staffing requirements and patient census.
