We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our dermatology practice. The Medical Assistant will provide clinical and administrative support to dermatologists and clinical staff, ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and a high standard of patient care in a fast-paced setting.

Clinical Duties

• Escort patients to examination rooms and complete initial intake, including chief complaint, medication list, allergies, and pertinent history using the EMR.
• Measure and document vital signs and screening data: height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation as needed.
• Assist providers with dermatologic examinations, biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, suture removal, wound care, or other in-office procedures.
• Prepare patients and set up equipment for exams and special procedures.
• Collect blood and other laboratory specimens as ordered; perform routine laboratory tests per office protocol.
• Enter proposed orders into the EMR for review and approval by a licensed provider.
• Obtain prior test results from outside laboratories, radiology centers, and other physicians’ offices.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diet, and physician instructions to patients in a clear and effective manner.
• Clean and sterilize instruments; dispose of contaminated supplies in accordance with OSHA and infection-control guidelines.
• Maintain an adequate supply of medical inventory in each exam room; restock and organize supplies as needed.
• Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and prepared after each patient and for specific procedures.

Administrative & Coordination Duties

• Perform administrative tasks as needed, including answering phones, taking messages, and scheduling appointments.
• Create and update telephone encounters when reporting and responding to patients’ medical concerns and requests; forward information to appropriate staff and providers.
• Adhere to patient flow protocol:
• Adhere to Visit Completion Protocol
• Order office and clinical supplies as needed.
• Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and all applicable New York State regulations regarding patient privacy and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Current New York State Medical Assistant certification/registration as required by state law.
• Computer proficiency with experience using EMR/EHR systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and basic laboratory procedures.
• Understanding of infection control, sterilization techniques, and OSHA standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to explain instructions clearly to patients.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work under pressure in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
• Self-directed, self-motivated, and able to multi-task effectively.
• Professional phone etiquette and a patient-centered approach to care.
