Police Officer--Non-CertifiedThis posting is for non-certified applicants. Position reports to the supervisor responsible for the area of assignment. This is a non-supervisory position.Provides responsible law enforcement services that fulfill the mission and specific purposes of the department and City.Duties include but are not limited to the following:Provides excellent service and protection to all members of the Lake Worth Community.Afford all citizens highly efficient and professional protection and services.Accept responsibility for crime prevention/awareness.Investigate crime and incidents impartially.Strive for voluntary compliance to laws and ordinances.Promote an attitude of friendliness, helpfulness, tact, understanding and caring.Communicate cooperatively and openly with the community.Serves warrants and makes arrests.Pursues and apprehends suspects.Performs police-community relations activities.Patrols an assigned area to prevent crimes and enforce laws and ordinances.Responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and disturbances.Directs traffic, operates traffic monitoring equipment, conducts traffic stops.Conducts preliminary investigations of traffic crashes, criminal offenses, and incidents disrupting public peace.Interviews witnesses, complainants, victims and suspects and takes statements and affidavits.Makes referrals to Child Protective Services/Investigations when appropriate.Keeps records of activities and prepares reports concerning crimes, complaints, traffic crashes, and investigations.Responds to the public's calls for assistance and takes necessary action, including performing first aid.Processes prisoners, including fingerprinting, photographing, ensuring magistration by a judge, approving City bonds, searching prisoners, recording and securing the prisoner's property, and transporting prisoners to appropriate facility.Appears/Testifies in court and before grand juries as necessary/required.Shares information and works with other law enforcement agencies as directed and appropriate.Conducts security checks of businesses and residential areas.Tags and logs in evidence.Performs upkeep and simple maintenance on department vehicles.Assists with special activities and events.Educates the public on issues of crime prevention and awareness including conducting inspections, classes, and speeches relative to crime prevention, safety education, and community involvement.Performs such other law enforcement, investigative, technical, and educational duties as may be assigned.Serves in extension of current duties as required for emergency management.Should an officer be assigned to a specialized unit or transferred to another division, those specific duties will be discussed in detail by their supervisor and documented accordingly.May provide dispatch relief when necessary.Minimum Job RequirementsEducation and ExperienceTexas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Certification.OR Be eligible for certification from TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement). AND45 college credit hours with a 2.0 GPA or higher from an accredited college or university, ORMinimum two years in the United States Armed Forces with Honorable Discharge or active reserve status, ORTwo years of experience with the City of Lake Worth with a minimum of two consecutive annual evaluations with a rating of meeting expectations or above.Licenses and Certificates: Valid Class C Texas driver license; valid Texas Basic Peace Officer Certification.Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.Physical Abilities: Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer terminal, city vehicle and firearms. Walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods of time. Regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry up 10 pounds. Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds or more. Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, and twist. Operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard. Speak and hear to exchange information in English. Operate a vehicle to travel to various locations. Operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment including guns and handcuffs.
