Specimen Technician

Job Overview:

Pay Range: $16.10hr - $21.10hr

Requirement/Must Have:

High School diploma or equivalent.
Basic understanding of computers.
Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
Ability to work in a biohazard environment practicing safety habits.
Availability for nightshift, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive environment.
Ability to adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility.
Adherence to core values, safety, and compliance policies.

Responsibilities:

Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department including A-station and presort.
Handle pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
Perform imaging, microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting of specimens.
Ensure all functions are performed with accuracy and in a timely manner.
Learn and understand specimen types related to ordered tests.
Maintain understanding of compliance regulations related to test ordering.
Maintain a neat and clean work area.

Nice to Have:

Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
Previous laboratory experience.
Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
Previous hospital laboratory experience.
Previous experience in a production environment.

Skills:

Data Entry.
Centrifugation.
Aliquoting.
Specimen Processing.
Medical Terminology.
Laboratory Safety.
Alphanumeric Typing.

Qualification And Education:

High School Diploma.

Due to nature of job The candidate must have Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
