ABOUT YOUThe position requires a practical and motivated chemistry graduate who takes pride in accurate work, enjoys learning new techniques and can contribute positively within a busy laboratory team.Previous industry experience is not essential. We're particularly interested in the scientific foundation and practical laboratory experience you've gained through your degree, together with examples of using initiative, organising your work and taking responsibility.You'll join a close-knit team of experienced colleagues who work together to meet client deadlines. A full programme of role-based training will help you develop your technical knowledge and build a long-term career with Intertek.Required skills and experience:A degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific disciplineA sound understanding of chemistry and broad awareness of analytical techniques gained through academic study or employmentPractical laboratory experience gained during your degree or through work; wet chemistry, titrations or gravimetric analysis would be beneficialA proactive approach, with the confidence to use initiative and take responsibility for your workGood planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and work accurately to deadlinesExcellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality records and reportsStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a teamComputer literacy, including the ability to work with laboratory data and prepare clear written informationKnowledge of food contact regulations, EU or FDA methods, or ISO 17025 would be advantageous, but full training will be providedABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYAs an Analyst in our Food Contact team, you'll carry out practical laboratory testing that helps customers demonstrate that packaging and other materials comply with UK, European and international food contact requirements.The work is varied and spans two laboratories. You'll support migration testing, wet chemistry and chemical analysis across materials including plastics, metals, alloys and ceramics. You may also contribute to substance identification work for REACH, pharmacopoeial testing, spot tests and other analytical projects as required.You'll begin with a comprehensive training programme based on your existing knowledge and experience.
