Salary: $105,000–$135,000 , commensurate with experience

About the Opportunity

A growing and established CPA firm is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Preparer / Reviewer to join its tax practice. This is a hands-on position for a tax professional who is comfortable both preparing and reviewing complex tax returns and can work independently while collaborating closely with Partners and other members of the tax team.

The ideal candidate will have strong public accounting experience, solid technical tax knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple engagements from preparation through final review.

The role is initially more onsite for training, collaboration, and integration with the team , with flexibility toward a hybrid schedule based on experience, performance, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, and estates.
  • Review tax returns, supporting workpapers, schedules, and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Handle complex tax preparation issues and research technical tax questions as they arise.
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual tax projections.
  • Assist with tax planning and identify opportunities for clients based on their individual circumstances.
  • Analyze financial information, K-1s, investment income, business activities, deductions, credits, and other tax-related documentation.
  • Communicate directly with clients to obtain information, resolve questions, and address outstanding tax matters.
  • Work closely with Partners and Managers on more complex engagements and client issues.
  • Assist with federal and state tax notices, examinations, and correspondence when necessary.
  • Maintain organized and complete engagement files and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
  • Help identify discrepancies and potential issues before returns are finalized.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to less-experienced tax staff.
  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, particularly during tax season.

Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience preferred.
  • Strong hands-on experience preparing and/or reviewing individual and business tax returns.
  • Experience with 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, and/or 706/709 returns.
  • Experience with trusts, estates, high-net-worth individuals, or closely held businesses is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations.
  • Experience with professional tax software such as UltraTax, CCH Axcess, Lacerte, ProSystem fx, Drake, or similar platforms .
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • CPA or EA preferred , but strong relevant experience will be considered.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify technical or reporting issues.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with clients and senior-level professionals.
  • Able to work independently while functioning effectively within a collaborative tax team.

Work Arrangement

This position is designed around an onsite-to-hybrid progression .

Candidates should be comfortable working onsite with the team initially, particularly during onboarding, training, and the transition into the firm's workflow. Experienced professionals who demonstrate strong technical capabilities, reliability, and the ability to independently manage their workload may transition to a hybrid schedule.

The exact onsite/hybrid arrangement can be adjusted based on experience level, technical expertise, client responsibilities, and performance .

Compensation

$105,000–$135,000 base salary , depending on experience and technical capabilities.

Candidates with substantial review experience, complex return expertise, CPA/EA credentials, or significant high-net-worth/trusts-and-estates exposure may be considered toward the upper end of the range.
