Asst/Assoc Athletic Trainer

Florida International University in Miami is seeking two Assistant Athletic Trainers for Men’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer. The successful candidate will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in providing competent and complete medical care for all student‑athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics. Responsibilities Work cooperatively with and under the direction of the team physician and standing order protocols in respect to evaluation, treatment, modality use, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Assist the team physician in determining whether a student‑athlete is medically fit for participation in practices and/or games. Assist with supervising the athletic training facility, including request and requisitioning of equipment and supplies, and secure storage and inventory control of equipment and supplies. Assist with maintaining a clean and organized medical facility. Assist in the coordination and administration of student‑athlete pre‑participation/post‑season physical exams. Educate the student‑athletes, coaches, and student athletic trainers on injury trends, injury potential, and safety and prevention strategies. Ensure following procedures within the concussion management plan and educate student‑athletes, coaches and staff on concussion safety. Maintain thorough medical records of the student‑athletes’ health history, insurance coverage, medical referrals, injury treatments, and rehabilitation in the department EMR. Assist with correspondence and securing authorizations for medical referrals for coordination and utilizing the student‑athletes’ primary insurance to assist with cost mitigation. Consult with the university/department psychologist and refer students experiencing mental wellness issues to appropriate personnel. Assist with coordination, supervision and administration of educational and practical experiences for DATs, graduate assistants, interns and student athletic trainers as governed by the NATA. Assist with GA/student selection and administration of GA orientation. Assist with supervision of student athletic trainers. Serve as liaison for student‑athletes with physicians, medical specialists, student counseling services, student health services, local hospitals, and other health care facilities as necessary. Work cooperatively with coaches and equipment staff in selecting the protective equipment and checking it for safety. Coordinate sports medicine services for visiting teams. Maintain confidentiality for the department. Treat with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity any matter pertaining to academic, medical and personal data of student athletes and any information either directly or indirectly impacting the University and/or Athletic Department. Adhere to all State of Florida, University, NCAA, Conference USA and department rules and policies pertaining to the position of Athletic Trainer. Report any known NCAA violations or concerns to the Director of Athletic Compliance and be responsible for the monitoring of any subordinate as it relates to NCAA regulations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Preference: Master’s degree or experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program.
