JOURNEYWORKER ELECTRICIAN
Division ESCO Electric Location All locations Reports To President of Electric, Foreperson, General Foreperson, and Superintendent Employment Type Non-Exempt Job Status Full-Time Typical Working Hours 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. May be required to work extended hours including holidays and weekends due to the 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year type of service ESCO provides its clients. Synopsis The Journeyworker Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems in commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. This position requires the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. Journeyworker Electrician serve as leaders in the field by mentoring apprentices, coordinating with project supervision, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with contract documents, applicable codes, and company standards. Responsibilities and Duties The Journeyworker Electrician will be responsible for, but not limited to: Primary Responsibilities Install conduit systems including EMT, RMC, IMC, PVC, and flexible conduit. Install cable tray, supports, and raceway systems. Pull, terminate, label, and test power, control, instrumentation, and communication cables. Install electrical equipment including switchgear, MCCs, panelboards, transformers, disconnects, VFDs, lighting, receptacles, and specialty equipment. Read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, specifications, and equipment manuals. Perform equipment startup assistance, testing, and troubleshooting. Install and terminate motor controls, PLC I/O, instrumentation, and industrial automation equipment. Perform electrical maintenance, repairs, and service work on energized and de-energized systems as permitted. Verify installations meet NEC requirements, customer specifications, and company quality standards. Maintain accurate documentation including as-built drawings, redlines, and daily reports as required. Coordinate work with other trades to maintain project schedules. Take pride in yourself and your job. Help keep all areas clean, organized, and safe. Assist with planning work activities and identifying material requirements. Safely operate aerial lifts, forklifts, excavation equipment (when qualified), and other construction equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area. You are a representative of the company and that your words and actions should create only a favorable opinion of the company. Leadership Responsibilities Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentice electricians. Demonstrate proper installation techniques and safe work practices. Promote teamwork and maintain a positive jobsite culture. Assist Foremen with work planning and daily task assignments. Identify potential safety hazards and quality concerns before they become issues. Safety Responsibilities Follow all OSHA regulations and ESCO Group safety policies. Participate in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetings. Properly use required PPE. Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash, and confined space procedures when applicable. Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately. Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the project. Conduct yourself at work so as to ensure safety for yourself, fellow workers, protection of the public, and protection of company, public, and private property. Remember, your health and life are very important to you and this company. Follow all safety rules and regulations and make sure workers around you are safety-minded also. When called upon to do work under conditions believed to be unsafe, call these conditions to the attention of supervision, and then thoroughly understand the supervisor’s instruction as to the best possible way to complete the job. Attend all safety meetings and take an active part in the safety program. Know and understand the company safety policies and procedures which apply to the work you are performing. Properly use all safety devices and equipment. Report all injuries immediately, regardless of the severity, to your foreperson or supervisor. Background and Work Experience State Journeyworker Electrician License. Completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program. Minimum of four years of commercial or industrial electrical experience. Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Ability to read and interpret construction documents. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and site-specific safety requirements. Preferred OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification. NFPA 70E Training. CPR/First Aid Certification. Aerial lift Certification. Forklift operator Certification. Experience with industrial controls, PLCs, instrumentation, and automation. Medium-voltage installation experience. Experience in manufacturing, food processing, renewable energy, healthcare, or data center facilities. Industrial electrical construction experience. Commercial electrical construction experience. Physical Demands Must be physically and mentally able to safely perform the essential functions of an electrician. Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings. Must be able to stand, walk, climb up and down stairs, climb and work from laddars, aerial lifts, scaffolds, and towers of various heights. Must be able to work with hands and fingers also be able to reach with arms. Must be able to crawl, kneel, crouch and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes, trenches, and crawl spaces. Must be able to wear different types of fall arrest equipment including but not limited to harnesses and lanyards. Must be able to regularly lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. On occasion, lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Bend and thread conduit/pipe. Must be able to work in hot and cold temperature conditions. Must be able to visually distinguish between colors. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate two-handed power equipment. Pull wire and cable in conduits and or tray. Terminate wire and cable (may be small intricate items involved). Wire labeling. Read prints (looking over prints to get wire pulls ready and conduit runs laid out). Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel as project demands require. All necessary personal protective equipment is provided to meet and in some instances exceed OSHA Regulations. Conduit Weights- ″ rigid conduit 8.2#/10′
