Industrial Electrician – Controls Projects
Kansas City, MO area (travel required)
Overview
A growing industrial organization is seeking a Traveling Industrial Electrician to support electrical and automation projects across multiple processing facilities. This role combines hands-on electrical work with project coordination and commissioning support.
The position is field oriented and involves travel to facilities throughout the Midwest with occasional travel to North Carolina. This role is ideal for a senior industrial electrician or controls technician who enjoys project work, troubleshooting, and supporting installations across multiple plants.
Key Responsibilities
· Support installation and startup of electrical and automation projects across multiple facilities
· Work alongside contractors and internal teams during equipment installation and upgrades
· Troubleshoot motors, MCC systems, VFDs, PLC hardware, and instrumentation
· Assist with commissioning including device checkout, I/O verification, and system startup
· Review electrical panels, control layouts, and system configurations during project execution
· Coordinate with maintenance teams, contractors, and engineering resources
· Ensure installations meet safety and electrical standards
· Maintain project documentation including drawings and as built records
· Provide ongoing technical troubleshooting and improvement support across facilities
Qualifications
· 5+ years of industrial electrical experience in manufacturing or process environments
· Strong understanding of MCC systems, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and instrumentation
· Experience supporting installation, commissioning, or electrical upgrade projects
· Ability to read and interpret electrical and controls schematics
· Comfortable working in both field environments and project coordination roles
· Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
· Preferred Experience
· Grain handling, milling, food processing, or other industrial processing environments
· Experience with industrial networking or control system communication protocols
· Familiarity with electrical safety standards and industrial electrical systems
Travel
Travel is required to facilities throughout the Midwest with occasional travel to North Carolina. Travel typically ranges 50–70% depending on project activity.
Compensation
Base salary starting around $110K+ depending on experience
Additional Details
This position includes both field work and project coordination. Candidates should be comfortable working on job sites supporting installations, troubleshooting equipment, and assisting with commissioning activities.
$36 - $47.5 per hour
