You can grasp and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Being able to see the bigger picture, you bring people together to effectively prioritize, craft, and achieve plans. As an Engineering Manager at Justworks, you will help build and oversee a team of software engineers as a player-coach. You are responsible for coordinating projects, setting priorities, and motivating engineers to create and maintain features for our customers. The role involves a mix of hands-on coding and a strong technical background, with a passion for mentoring and growing teams.Your Success ProfileWhat You Will Work OnWork with the Engineers, Design, and Product Managers to prioritize, schedule and execute projects so we can quickly develop and ship new featuresPartner with Product to define and execute the team’s long-term strategy and quarterly roadmap, including setting goals and measuring progress/success towards themCommunicate and coordinate with other teams (inside and outside of engineering) to understand the requirements and opportunities for improvementMentor engineers to help them grow their technical skills by fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation and continuous learning Provide guidance, both technical and non-technical, to direct reportsAttract, hire, develop, and retain a high-performing team of engineersHelp drive sound technical decision-making and lead technical conversations with other teams across JustworksInstill a sense of empathy in the team for our internal stakeholders to create better user experiences with an eye towards making workflows easier and more efficientPerforms other related duties as assignedHow You Will Do Your WorkAs an Engineering Manager, how results are achieved is paramount for your success and ultimately result in our success as an organization. Simplicity - Be like Einstein: “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.”Qualifications7+ years of experience as a software engineer working on production web applicationsMinimum of 1 year of experience managing a team of engineersDemonstrable experience prioritizing, crafting, and achieving plansStrong communication skills with ability to grasp and explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical peopleHigh levels of empathy and interpersonal skillsSolid understanding of core web development technologies. i.e. Data structures, data stores, algorithms, distributed systems and common patterns around these frameworksTechnologies UsedGolang, Ruby on Rails, Javascript, MySQL, Kafka, Temporal, AWS, Git, Memcache, Redis, ElasticSearch, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, CircleCI, DataDogThe base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $192,500.00 - $211,750.00 per year.#LI-DG2 #LI-HybridActual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location.
