Licensed Practical Nurse

Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse provides selected nursing care to residents in accordance with established standards of practice. The Licensed Practical Nurse assists with the overall operation and management of the assigned unit during the designated shift and provides direct supervision and guidance to Certified Nursing Assistants to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality resident care.

Examples of duties include:

• Administers and documents medications as ordered and under guidelines of the LPN licensure
• Documents timely per facility policy
• Counts narcotics with oncoming shifts
• Provides routine patient care and treatments including wound care, blood pressure checks, catheterizations, tube feedings, etc., following guidelines and other regulations
• Safely and accurately administers medications and treatments according to physician order and standards of practice
• Collects resident data utilizing appropriate nursing assessment tools and forms of the facility and documents the findings according to facility standards
• Monitors nursing care plan status and Certified Nursing Assistant assignment sheets for accuracy in reflecting the current needs of the resident, adjusts as needed, and communicates to the NCC
• Recognizes and reports signs and/or symptoms of significant resident health changes, resident abuse or misappropriations and reports change to the RN. Intervenes per RN direction according to established facility policies and procedures and documents per facility standards
• Recognizes and reports resident abuse, neglect or misappropriation of funds
• Functions as a team member in resident care conferences with family, agencies, and departments as necessary
