Surgical Technologist
Surgical Technologist Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Technologist, Scrub Technologist, OR Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 32 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state required. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association. Must-Have: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
Description: Assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field. Provides instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. Participates in unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care. Functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions: Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique. Combines knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies. Maintains and checks all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal, and packaging integrity. Ensures that the operating room environment is safe and that equipment functions properly. Monitors the sterile field for events that may contaminate or alter it and initiates corrective action as needed. Maintains flexibility while contributing to individualized care within the scope of practice. Models effective, timely communication with the perioperative team. Assists the team in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the functions of this position. Communicates effectively, clearly, and timely. Ability to work under stress and deadlines while collaborating with others. This position does provide patient care.
