Job Summary Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval (award amount up to $200,000 and eligibility period of one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements (if applicable) outlined in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy). Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Physician residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional requirement: Board certified (candidate must qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center). Preferred experience: Extensive experience in pulmonary diseases. Physical requirements: see VA Directive and Handbook 5019 – Employee Occupational Health Service. Duties Successful candidate must qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Participate in inpatient and outpatient quality care, teaching, and research related to pulmonary/critical care and sleep disorders. Apply national and VA guidelines to patient screening, surveillance, and management of such diseases. Proficient in routine and advanced bronchoscopic procedures— including EBUS, robotic bronchoscopy, and bedside ultrasound. Experience in formal sleep training and proficiency in all aspects of sleep medicine—including scoring and interpretation of home sleep testing. Participate in the education and supervision of trainees. Strong research experience is preferred. Extensive experience in pulmonary diseases and procedures such as airway stenting, electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy, endobronchial ablation, EBUS, arterial cannulation, closed tube thoracostomy, chemical pleurodesis, fiberoptic bronchoscopy with biopsy, robotic bronchoscopy, closed pleural biopsy, pulmonary exercise testing, pulmonary function test interpretation, percutaneous lung biopsy, and ventilator management. Paid time off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME). Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution. Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long‑term care insurance (many programs can be carried into retirement). Full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory. Possible $1,000 per year CME reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification). Free malpractice liability protection with tail coverage. No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm.
