Enterprise Data Architect

East West Bank is seeking an experienced Enterprise Data Architect to define and lead the bank’s enterprise-wide data architecture strategy, standards, and target-state data ecosystem. This role will operate initially as an individual contributor with significant strategic influence across enterprise initiatives.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the bank’s enterprise data architecture roadmap, including target-state architecture, data domains, canonical models, integration patterns, and modernization strategies aligned to business and regulatory priorities.
  • Design and govern enterprise-wide data architecture standards, including logical and conceptual data models, metadata standards, reference architectures, naming conventions, and data lifecycle management practices.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to establish scalable enterprise data domains and master/reference data strategies across critical banking entities such as customer, account, product, transaction, and legal entity.
  • Lead architecture design and governance for enterprise data platforms leveraging Azure-native technologies, including:
  • Azure Databricks
  • Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2)
  • Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Microsoft Fabric
  • Power BI ecosystem
  • Define reusable data integration and interoperability patterns across operational systems, cloud platforms, APIs, streaming frameworks, and downstream analytical environments.
  • Develop enterprise architecture guidance for data products, lakehouse architecture, metadata management, lineage, and semantic modeling, ensuring consistency and scalability across the organization.
  • Collaborate with data governance, risk, compliance, and cybersecurity teams to establish architecture controls supporting:
  • Data quality
  • Data lineage
  • Data retention
  • Access governance
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate and recommend modern data architecture technologies, tooling, and frameworks, including metadata/catalog platforms, data observability solutions, and AI-ready architectures.
  • Partner with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure architectural alignment across enterprise data initiatives, including machine learning, advanced analytics, regulatory reporting, and self-service BI.
  • Participate in enterprise architecture review boards and technology governance processes, ensuring projects align with approved architectural principles and target-state standards.
  • Create and maintain enterprise architecture artifacts, including:
  • Data flow diagrams
  • Conceptual/logical data models
  • System interaction diagrams
  • Reference architectures
  • Architecture decision records (ADRs)
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to executive leadership, translating complex architecture concepts into actionable business and technology strategies.
  • Assess emerging trends in enterprise data architecture, AI/GenAI enablement, semantic layers, and data mesh/data fabric frameworks to guide future-state capability planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise data architecture, data engineering, solution architecture, or large-scale data platform modernization, preferably within banking or other highly regulated industries.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise data architecture principles, including:
  • Conceptual/logical/physical data modeling
  • Data integration architecture
  • Master data management (MDM)
  • Metadata management
  • Data lineage and governance frameworks
  • Strong experience designing and implementing cloud-native enterprise data platforms, particularly within an Azure ecosystem, including Azure Databricks, Synapse, Azure Data Factory, ADLS Gen2, and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Strong understanding of modern enterprise architecture patterns, including:
  • Lakehouse architecture
  • Data mesh / data fabric concepts
  • Event-driven architecture
  • API-based integration
  • Distributed data processing frameworks
  • Experience with enterprise data modeling and architecture tools such as:
  • Erwin
  • ER/Studio
  • Lucidchart
  • Visio
  • Collibra
  • Microsoft Purview
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise metadata management, data cataloging, and lineage frameworks supporting regulatory and operational transparency.
  • Experience establishing architecture standards and governance processes across large-scale, cross-functional enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of banking regulatory and risk management considerations related to data governance, privacy, retention, and auditability.
  • Experience partnering with engineering, analytics, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to drive enterprise-wide architectural alignment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and drive consensus across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to operate effectively as a highly autonomous individual contributor, balancing strategic planning with hands-on architectural leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Architecture, or related discipline.
  • Experience within commercial banking, consumer banking, risk management, regulatory reporting, or enterprise analytics environments.
  • Familiarity with banking regulatory frameworks and standards related to BCBS 239, SR 11-7, CCAR, CECL, AML/BSA, and enterprise risk reporting.
  • Experience designing architecture for AI/ML and GenAI-enabled platforms, including vectorized data architectures, semantic search, and AI-ready data pipelines.
  • Experience implementing enterprise metadata/catalog and governance solutions such as Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview, or Informatica.
  • Knowledge of enterprise integration and messaging frameworks, including Kafka, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architecture patterns.
  • Architecture certification(s) such as:
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Databricks Certified Professional
  • Prior experience building or scaling enterprise architecture or data governance functions.

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is USD $150,000.00/Yr. - USD $250,000.00/Yr. Exact offers will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
