Clinical Nurse

The Clinical Nurse is responsible for providing competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Education

• Participates in identifying and fulfilling personal learning needs.
• Attends educational programs based on identified needs.
• Utilizes relevant patient education materials as needed.
• Assesses the readiness of patients/families/caregivers to learn.
• Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.

Evaluation of Care

• Identifies expected patient outcomes.
• Seeks guidance for revisions of the care plan as needed.
• Engages with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
• Communicates vital information to ensure continuity of care.

Implementation

• Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
• Performs bedside point of care testing as required by the patient care plan.
• Adheres to organizational standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
• Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
• Consults with appropriate resources concerning complex patient care issues, teaching needs, and discharge planning.

Leadership

• Assists in developing professional growth goals or minimizing limitations.
• Achieves personal goals within a defined time frame or renegotiates with a supervisor.
• Informs about activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
• Contributes to unit goals and performance improvement activities.
• Utilizes effective communication systems.
• Participates in promoting cost-effective care.
• Provides feedback to coworkers.
• Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines impacting the healthcare environment.

Patient Assessment

• Recognizes complex data to set priorities for care.
• Addresses physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
• Synthesizes assessment data into cohesive information for communication.
• Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
• Builds relationships with families to enhance their ability to advocate for patient needs.

Planning

• Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
• Utilizes multidisciplinary resources effectively in care planning.
• Employs a variety of communication methods to convey planning information.
• Identifies cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning.
• Demonstrates task prioritization for patients with complex issues.

Research

• Engages with professional literature that may inform practice.
• Brings ideas and inquiries to the team for discussion regarding applicability.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.

Education

• Required: Nursing Diploma OR ADN/ASN from an accredited nursing school.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited nursing school.

Certifications & Licensure

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC) is required.

Schedule Notes

This position involves working in an inpatient float pool with an option for a block weekend schedule.
