ADON responsibilities include: Supervising and supporting registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical/medication aide (LPNs/MedAides), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Helping manage daily nursing operations, including staffing and scheduling. Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations. Assisting with staff hiring, orientation, training, and performance evaluations. Monitoring resident care plans and addressing clinical concerns. Investigating incidents, accidents, and resident complaints. Participating in quality improvement and infection prevention programs. Maintaining accurate medical documentation and ensuring regulatory standards are met. Working with physicians, therapists, social workers, and families to coordinate resident care. Filling in for the Director of Nursing when needed. Common qualifications Current RN license. Several years of nursing experience, often in long-term care or skilled nursing. Supervisory or leadership experience. Knowledge of long-term care regulations and quality standards. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. The ADON is essentially the second-in-command of the nursing department, balancing direct clinical oversight with administrative and leadership duties.
