Position Overview:

The Communications Coordinator assists the Communications Director in developing and executing strategic communication and marketing initiatives that advance KU School of Business priorities. This position creates and manages content across digital, print and social media channels to promote academic programs, faculty research, student success, alumni engagement, events and other school initiatives. The Communications Coordinator also supervises student employee(s), manages the school’s events marketing efforts, and supports media relations and storytelling that strengthen the school’s visibility and reputation.

This is a full-time, 12-month, staff position and is currently designated as an on-campus position. Office will be located in beautiful Capitol Federal Hall, a 166,500 square foot modern facility that the School of Business has called home since 2016. Job Description:

50% - Content Development and Delivery

• Plans, writes, and edits content that promotes School of Business programs, initiatives, events and strategic priorities across print and digital channels

• Leads social media content development and messaging to highlight School of Business news, stories, and events and successfully engage the school’s key audiences

• Regularly writes stories highlighting student, faculty, staff and alumni accomplishments to elevate the school’s visibility and reputation

• Manages marketing and communications projects, including print materials, digital campaigns and content initiatives

• Assists in content management and optimization of the School of Business website and other web properties

• Assists in creating communication plans that support strategic priorities

• Monitors and analyzes digital communication performance metrics and provides recommendations to improve audience engagement and communication effectiveness

• Writes and edits news and feature stories

• Works with communications director and school leadership to develop and distribute publications

• Supports other content marketing and communications needs as assigned

30% - Events Marketing

• Develops and executes marketing and communication strategies for School of Business events, including public lectures, student programs, alumni engagement activities and other special events

• Coordinates promotional content across digital and print channels in coordination with school’s graphic designer

• Develops press releases and other relevant media materials to support event promotion and visibility

• Manages and maintains School of Business website events calendar in coordination with events director

• Supports media outreach and promotion of School of Business events and invited speakers

• Tracks and evaluates event marketing performance and audience engagement metrics to inform future event marketing strategies

20% - Special Projects and Miscellaneous

• Assists communications director with project management and other administrative responsibilities that support the communications team’s goals and priorities

• Supervises, trains and provides guidance to student communications employee(s), including assigning projects and reviewing work

• Collaborates with school and university partners to support strategic communication and marketing initiatives, ensuring timely completion and alignment with school priorities

• Serves as a communications resource for faculty and staff by consulting on content, marketing and communication projects

• Participates as active member of School of Business staff, including attending business school staff and faculty assembly meetings

• Represents the School of Business on school, university and professional committees and groups as requested

• Performs other communications and marketing duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, strategic communication, English, marketing, public relations or related field and 2 years of professional experience in strategic writing, marketing communications, content development, or related professional experience OR High School Diploma/GED equivalency and 6 years of professional experience in strategic writing, marketing communications, content development, or related professional experience.

2. Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office; experience with Adobe Creative Suite as demonstrated on application materials

3. Demonstrated knowledge of AP style based on application materials

Preferred Qualifications:

1. One year of experience managing social media for an organization

2. One year of experience using content management system to update web content

3. Experience writing feature stories and/or news coverage of academic research

4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills

5. Experience managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines

6. Experience with Drupal content management system
