JOB GOAL: The School Nurse provides professional nursing services that advance the well-being, academic success, and lifelong achievement of students. To that end, the school nurse will facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

REPORTS TO: Special Services Director, Certified District Nurse, Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed as a registered professional nurse in Illinois
Prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community, and/or mental health nursing.
Experience in working with children with severe/profound disabilities desirable
Current CPR program card


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in preparing emergency medical plans and assure they are present at appropriate locations, i.e. local emergency responders, school classrooms/buildings, transportation vehicles, etc.
• Insure that the medication guidelines of the State of Illinois are adhered to by teachers, parents, doctor.
• Maintain an open line of communication with parents, teachers, physicians, and other pertinent personnel in order to function as an effective member of the educational team.
• Administer first aid and emergency care as required for special education during the school day.
• Maintain up-to-date health records of all students as they relate to the students medical program.
• Continually improve professional knowledge and skills related to position and to maintain professional standards.
• Computer literacy and competency in use of existing technology.
• Needed school health or nursing services, where relevant.
• Provides nursing care for staff members as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Pay and benefits based on experience and salary established by the BOE
