Sr Controls Engineer - Altavista, VA

Senior Controls Engineer role at Abbott's Altavista nutrition manufacturing facility, overseeing design, implementation, and optimization of packaging and processing equipment control systems. Lead cross-functional projects and provide technical expertise on PLC/HMI programming, instrumentation, and manufacturing automation compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, implementation, and validation of packaging and wet processing equipment systems
• Oversee installation and integration of manufacturing control systems including PLC, HMI/SCADA, and instrumentation
• Direct or support electrical control system design projects from specifications through commissioning and testing
• Prepare cost estimates, bid packages, and equipment specifications for cross-functional project teams
• Ensure compliance with FDA, OSHA, and Abbott policies for all control system designs and implementations

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related discipline
• Minimum 5 years of experience in process/manufacturing systems engineering
• Experience with validated processes and systems
• Systems troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
• PLC programming expertise in Delta-V and Allen-Bradley platforms
• HMI/SCADA programming knowledge in FactoryTalk View, Ignition, or iFix

Compensation: $78,000-$156,000 base
