Sr SQL Developer

Summary: Designs, develops, tests, maintains and enhances database code using the Microsoft SQL Server platform (and related technologies) to support business processes in the retail energy industry. Interfaces with users in order to determine requirements and deliver quality software which exceeds their expectations. Must have a strong desire to deliver well-designed and tested software.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Follow the team's JIRA-based Scrum development life cycle practices.
• Work independently for design, development and testing.
• Collaborate with team members to identify and prioritize/reprioritize work when necessary.
• Develop strong working relationships with individuals at all levels of the company.
• Anticipate and adjust for problems and roadblocks while eliminating roadblocks within control.
• Use appropriate change control procedures for implementing software enhancements.
• Have a strong desire to build well-tested software.
• Willing to work longer hours as necessary, especially during critical issue resolution.

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant business discipline from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 8 years professional database development experience, 5 years with MS SQL Server, strong preference for recent experience on a version later than 2008.

Role Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• In-depth understanding of MS SQL Server Relational Database Management software including expert proficiency in T-SQL
• Comfortable with entity-relationship models and data normalization
• Can write clean, understandable, and testable SQL and stored procedures
• Can maintain and troubleshoot existing, complex SQL and stored procedures

Additional desired skills:

• PostgreSQL, MySQL, and/or Oracle
• SQL RedGate Tools
• SSIS development
• Database performance tuning

Working Conditions & Requirements:

• Team work environment in cube or open work area.
• Duties are performed during standard business hours and overtime based on project requirements.
• Willing to attend meetings and respond to application problems for short durations at various corporate sites when necessary. Other locations include Princeton, NJ and Houston, TX.
