Employment Details Employment type: Full time (35 hours per week) Duration: 24-month fixed term Remuneration: Level A $113,911 – Level B $127,947 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading Work rights: Must hold full rights to work in Australia. Location: Hybrid, Kensington, Sydney About The Kirby Institute The Kirby Institute is a world-leading health research institute at UNSW Sydney, focusing on eliminating infectious diseases globally, especially in high-risk communities. Role Overview The Research Fellow (Biostatistician) carries out independent and/or team research, primarily conducting statistical analysis of national linked health and clinical datasets in collaboration with investigators and stakeholders. Responsibilities include design, documentation, analysis and reporting of Kirby Institute projects, covering HIV prevention (PrEP) and cervical disease prevention (HPV vaccination and screening). The role offers an opportunity to apply advanced statistical techniques to large-scale, complex datasets, shaping policy and practice. It involves independent work and multidisciplinary collaboration. Reports to Associate Professor Benjamin Bavinton; no direct reports. Key Responsibilities Design study protocols and statistical analysis plans for large-scale linked registry, clinical and administrative datasets. Conduct advanced data management and statistical analyses using Stata, R, SAS, PySpark and Python. Produce statistical analysis plans, code, data visualisations, scientific manuscripts and reports. Collate and interpret findings, communicating results to investigators, stakeholders and policy makers. Participate collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams. Qualifications – Level A PhD in statistics, public health, epidemiology or a related discipline. High-level proficiency with statistical packages (Stata, R, SAS, PySpark, Python). Experience managing and analysing linked health data, producing statistical analysis plans, and using GitHub. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and produce high-quality academic output. Track record of publications and conference presentations. Ability to develop and execute advanced data-management methods on large linked datasets. Ability to draft study concept sheets, statistical analysis plans, code, visualisations, manuscripts and reports. Teamwork, collaboration and effective relationship building. Qualifications – Level B All Level A qualifications plus evidence of research leadership and high-impact outputs. Experience as chief investigator in competitive grant applications or evidence of active participation in grant-funded collaborations. Ability to design research projects.
