Electrician

Performs the overall installations, maintenance, and repair of medium and low voltage electrical systems and equipment in all high school and the district office, including new installations, repairs, remodeling, servicing, and maintaining.

Essential Functions:

• Investigates and recommends where monies need to be budgeted for improvements in the electrical systems throughout the district.
• Installs and maintains master clocks, bells, panel boards, lighting systems, circuit boards, motor circuits, control switches, light fixtures, scoreboards, fire and intrusion alarms, etc.
• Works from blueprints and follows written specifications.
• Determines wire size, type of insulation, conduit type and size appropriate for specific installation.
• Works with the HVAC Technicians on air conditioning systems as needed.
• Works with other electricians to maintain important records including but not limited to, new or abandoned electrical lines; maintenance records; cost of materials; time estimates for specific jobs; required lamp sizes.
• Completes all assigned Maintenance Service Requests.
• Enforces safety measures and secures assigned areas.
• Repairs motors, "trouble shoots" motor control circuits.
• Investigates and recommends to Director of Plant Operations, in writing, areas where breakdowns may occur, potential hazards or where general improvements are needed.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses all electrical equipment problems or contacts appropriate vendor if necessary.
• Travel between schools may be required.
• Accepts responsibility for ensuring that Transportation completes regular maintenance on assigned department vehicle.
• Performs duties in other areas of plant operations and maintenance, as assigned.
• Ensures that all work is completed in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal laws, including the National Electric Code and the Tempe Electric Code.

Training and Experience:

• Successful completion of required skills testing.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship training program.
• Minimum five years full-time experience in industrial and commercial electrical, including at least two years as a journeyman.
• Ability to read blueprints and plans and to follow specifications.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

• Valid Arizona Driver's License.

Skill In:

• Safely operates and stores power tools and other equipment.
