Job Summary The Registered Nurse is a member of an interdisciplinary care team. This role provides patient‑centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position is part time .90 FTE with variable hours, shifts and days and includes some weekend shifts. The location is South Lake Union. Responsibilities Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes. Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment. Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management. Coordinates with inter‑disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care. Refers patients, families and caregivers to other clinical resources such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc. Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care. Integrates research and evidence‑based knowledge into clinical practice. Demonstrates knowledge of standard treatment and medication side effects. Performs nursing assessment, reviews relevant lab results, assesses pain and other symptoms. Administers IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and blood products. Demonstrates awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many agents and uses correct precautions when handling hazardous drugs. Follows procedures regarding safe disposal of materials used in chemotherapy or other hazardous agents and blood products. Provides patient and family education in coordination with treatment and care plan. Conducts learning needs assessment for patient and caregiver(s). Ensures patients have clinic contact information and understand when to call if symptoms arise or persist post‑infusion therapy. Communicates or escalates patient symptoms and concerns to provider as needed. Collaborates with the care team to provide effective and efficient patient care. Requests consultation from social work, dietician, spiritual care, or other supportive care teams when patient’s situation indicates. Participates in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); MSL primary state of residence must be updated to WA within 60 days of hire (may be waived under specific circumstances, subject to approval). Applicants without previous oncology experience will be provided additional training and support. Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent) and renewal required every two years. ONS Chemotherapy Provider Card (required within 3 months of hire). Additional certification may be required depending on department. Demonstrated critical thinking and ability to practice analytical, logical, and judgment skills. Time‑management skills; ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently. Effective communication skills: listening for cues, asking open‑ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying responses. Ability to effectively listen using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing. Ability to provide information clearly, avoiding jargon, checking for understanding, and using pauses as needed. Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Certification in oncology or specialty practice area. Two years of nursing experience. Two years of RN oncology experience in an ambulatory infusion setting. Compensation & Benefits The hourly pay range for this position is from $47.64 to $88.19 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are paid on a step‑scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H‑1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H‑1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
