Senior System Administrator
Senior-level System Administrator responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing critical IT infrastructure. Support servers, networks, storage, applications, and communication links in secure environments. Provide Tier 2/3 support, advanced troubleshooting, system optimization, and technical leadership. Support systems deployed across multiple locations, including local and remote environments. Must be able to work with DoD security, STIG, RMF, and compliance requirements.
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot: Windows/Linux servers, storage systems and peripherals, enterprise applications, network and communication systems
- Administer: Microsoft Active Directory (AD), DNS / DHCP, Group Policy (GPO), VMware, Windows IIS, IBM MQ
- Perform system capacity and performance analysis.
- Recommend system configuration changes, upgrades, and technology improvements.
- Support load balancing and fault-tolerant applications.
- Manage backups and disaster recovery.
- Perform vulnerability management and remediation.
Security & DoD Compliance
- Experience working in secure/DoD environments.
- Apply and validate DoD STIGs.
- Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation and accreditation.
- Implement security controls and perform patching/vulnerability remediation.
- Monitor security threats and risks.
- Experience with firewall management.
- Security clearance is mandatory: IT-I Critical Sensitive / Tier 5 (T5) at time of submission.
Automation & Scripting
- Automate system administration and routine operational tasks.
- Strong scripting experience with one or more: PowerShell, Python, Ansible.
- Develop and maintain: SOPs, technical documentation, network/system diagrams, OS images for deployment.
- Improve system administration efficiency through automation.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Provide advanced Tier 2/3 technical support.
- Troubleshoot complex: Windows/server issues, application issues, network/connectivity issues, AD/DNS/DHCP issues, VMware issues, IBM MQ/IIS issues.
- Monitor system performance, including tools such as SCOM.
- Respond to critical incidents and outages.
- Prepare incident/outage reports, including SITREPs, AARs, and DLA INFOSPOTS.
Leadership & Communication
- Direct and mentor other System Administrators.
- Provide day-to-day technical direction and user assistance.
- Conduct system administrator training and skills assessments.
- Provide end-user training when required.
- Work with technical teams and military/civilian stakeholders.
- Recommend future hardware, software, and technology direction based on business/mission requirements.
Acceptable 8140 / IAT Level II Certifications Candidate should have one or more of the following:
- CompTIA Cloud+
- GICSP – GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional
- GSEC – GIAC Security Essentials
- CompTIA Security+
- SSCP – Systems Security Certified Practitioner
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant technical discipline.
- Degree must be from a university/college accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Foreign degrees require evaluation by a recognized credential evaluation service for U.S. equivalency.
