Job Description And Duties

This advertisement is for a Correctional Officer position located at CC#28 Prado for Sierra Conservation Center in Chino, San Bernardino County. Please indicate the position number on your application: 099-628-9662-005.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Camp Commander, the Correctional Officer is responsible for the custody, supervision, security, health and welfare of the incarcerated people population and care of equipment, as well as the security coverage of the camp facility and boundaries. Actively support the vision and mission of CDCR by promoting a rehabilitative environment. Utilize skills consistent with CDCR to provide a safe environment. The Correctional Officer shall conduct duties in a professional manner at all times consistent with California Code of Regulation 3391, Employee Conduct, and keep immediate supervisor informed of any unusual or emergency situations as they occur.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.

Working Conditions

About this location -- The primary mission of Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California.

You must be a current California Correctional Peace Officer who has completed the Apprenticeship Program or you will not be considered for interview.

The behavioral characteristics of a violent offender to prevent injury and preserve safety. Performing searches to locate items and persons. Securing a crime scene to preserve evidence. Self defense to preserve safety. Evacuation procedures to prevent injury and preserve safety. Fire extinguishing equipment to prevent the spread of fire.

Ability to: Control, direct, and instruct inmates or parolees individually and in groups effectively. Remember names and faces of individuals accurately. Interpret and enforce institutional rules and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality. Read and interpret written material accurately. Communicate to others effectively. Prepare accurate and objective written reports using good grammar, composition and correct spelling. Promote socially acceptable attitudes and behavior of inmates or parolees effectively. Rate the conduct and productivity of inmates or parolees accurately and impartially. Think and act quickly in emergencies. Reason with others logically. Make simple arithmetic computations. Follow oral/written directions accurately. Follow the rules and regulations of the Department and institution accordingly. Distinguish inmates and correctional staff from a tower or elevated position accurately. Professionally perform as an authoritative figure. Make appropriate use of disciplinary options effectively. Interact professionally and tactfully with the public, inmates, and staff effectively. Follow chain of command accordingly. Climb ladders and stairwells effectively. Observe and perform in dim/bright light situations effectively. Operate departmental equipment and firearms safely and effective. Subdue combative inmates effectively. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Complete the apprenticeship program satisfactorily. Make sound decisions in high stress situations effectively. Multitask in various situations effectively.
