Position Boulder County Coroner's Office is offering opportunities for multiple Forensic Science Academy Participants to engage within a safe, controlled environment to learn about the roles, responsibilities, and challenges of working in death investigations or a morgue setting. Salary and Type Unpaid (6‑hour session, 9:00am – 3:00pm on Tuesday, July28th,2026). Location 5610 Flatiron Parkway, Boulder, CO. Responsibilities Engage in staged learning sessions to gain insight into the operations of a coroner’s office. Participate in an overview of Colorado statutes that shape the coroner’s office. Observe a staged death scene using a mannequin and a virtual autopsy. Learn about the roles, responsibilities, and challenges of working in death investigations or a morgue setting. Qualifications Current college student of a nationally accredited college or university, with a concentration in forensic science, health science, criminal justice, or a related field. High school students at least 16 years of age with a career interest in the field; 16‑17 year‑old applicants must have signed parent/guardian consent. One letter of support from a current high school educator or a professional in a related field. Special Requirements Applicants must attach a cover letter that explains interest in attending the Boulder County Forensic Science Academy. All selected attendees will undergo a background check, sign a confidentiality agreement and photo consent, and complete CJIS clearance for building access. Applicants ages 16‑17 must provide signed parental or guardian consent. All attendees must present a state or federal photo identification; a water bottle is required; a working lunch will be scheduled, but participants may bring lunch. Additional Information Participants will not observe or make contact with persons in our care, nor access case investigation records.
