Role Description

This full-time, on-site Mechanical Engineering Manager role is based in Sioux Falls, SD. The Mechanical Engineering Manager oversees mechanical design and development activities, leading a team of engineers in creating and refining components and systems for Aerostar’s aerospace and defense products. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing engineering projects, setting technical direction, reviewing CAD models and drawings, ensuring compliance with performance and safety requirements, and coordinating with cross-functional teams such as manufacturing, quality, and program management. The role involves mentoring and developing engineering staff, allocating resources, monitoring project timelines and budgets, and driving continuous improvement in design processes and standards. The Mechanical Engineering Manager also supports troubleshooting, testing, and validation efforts, and contributes to strategic planning for new products and capabilities.

• Candidates should possess strong Mechanical Engineering skills, including design, analysis, and understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
• Candidates should possess Engineering Management and Team Leadership skills to guide, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
• Candidates should possess Project Management skills to plan, execute, and deliver engineering projects on time and within scope.
• Candidates should possess Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills for reviewing and directing the creation of detailed models and drawings.
• Relevant qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; an advanced degree is beneficial.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, or complex electromechanical systems and familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements are advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams are required.
• Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools, design for manufacturability, and continuous improvement methodologies is beneficial.
