Job Title: Power Systems Engineer - BMS & EPMS (Hyperscale Data Centers)

Job Description

The BMS & EPMS Systems Engineer designs, programs, documents, integrates, and supports commissioning of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) for hyperscale data centers. This role focuses on mission-critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure, including HVAC controls, chilled water systems, power quality analysis, metering integration, and telemetry mapping, while helping to build out a specialized department in this space.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and implement BAS/BMS controls and EPMS solutions for hyperscale data centers, covering both mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

  • Develop complete lifecycle documentation for BMS and EPMS, including control drawings, sequences of operation, and integration specifications.

  • Perform integration and commissioning support for BMS and EPMS, including functional testing, troubleshooting, and validation of system performance.

  • Configure and integrate power monitoring equipment such as switchgear, circuit monitors, RPPs, transformers, and metering devices into EPMS platforms.

  • Map telemetry points and ensure accurate data acquisition, trending, and alarming across BMS and EPMS systems.

  • Conduct power quality analysis, including THD, harmonics, and waveform distortion, and interpret results to support reliability and performance improvements.

  • Apply a strong understanding of chilled water systems and white space cooling strategies to optimize HVAC controls and thermal performance.

  • Use AutoCAD or Bluebeam to create and maintain detailed controls documentation, drawings, and schematics.

  • Write advanced sequences of operation (SOOs) for airflow and thermal optimization in mission-critical environments.

  • Interpret and apply data center electrical distribution designs and standards within BMS and EPMS implementations.

  • Integrate and test systems using BACnet/IP, Modbus/TCP, and TCP/IP networking protocols to ensure reliable communication between devices and platforms.

  • Interpret and implement Google-specific controls and EPMS documentation and standards when provided.

  • Support integration testing and commissioning activities on site, coordinating with project teams and resolving technical issues.

  • Work independently in a largely remote capacity while contributing to the build-out and maturation of the BMS/EPMS engineering department.

  • Travel to project sites as needed, primarily to Michigan City, Indiana, for initial project phases and key commissioning milestones.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in BAS/BMS controls design and EPMS engineering.

  • Deep expertise in mission-critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure, including HVAC controls and chilled water topologies.

  • Strong understanding of chilled water systems and white space cooling strategies in data center environments.

  • Strong understanding of data center electrical distribution, including switchgear, RPPs, transformers, and related equipment.

  • Proficiency in BACnet/IP, Modbus/TCP, and TCP/IP networking for building automation and power monitoring systems.

  • Hands-on experience with power monitoring systems, building automation systems, and controls engineering.

  • Experience with power quality analysis, including THD, harmonics, and waveform distortion.

  • Experience with AutoCAD or Bluebeam for controls documentation and drawing creation.

  • Experience with commissioning and integration testing of BMS and EPMS systems.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables and project outcomes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Schneider PME or similar electrical power monitoring platforms.

  • Data center or mission-critical facility experience strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with Google-specific controls and EPMS documentation and standards.

  • Ability to write advanced sequences of operation (SOOs) for airflow and thermal optimization.

  • Experience interpreting Google EPMS standards when provided.

  • Coming from electrical power engineering or controls engineering.

  • Comfort working in a remote environment while collaborating with distributed project teams.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a remote work environment, with most day-to-day responsibilities performed offsite. The engineer will travel to project locations as needed, with a key project based in Michigan City, Indiana. Travel and lodging costs are fully covered. Onsite presence is expected primarily during the early phases of a project and major commissioning milestones, with onsite requirements typically decreasing as the project progresses. Work focuses on hyperscale data center environments and mission-critical facilities, using tools such as AutoCAD or Bluebeam and protocols including BACnet/IP, Modbus/TCP, and TCP/IP. The position offers the flexibility to return home on weekends during multi-week onsite engagements when project schedules permit, and supports independent work while contributing to the growth of a specialized BMS and EPMS engineering department.
