Staff Nurse - Labor and Delivery Unit

Labor and Delivery Unit: The Labor and Delivery Unit (6JPP) is a 15-bed unit with a variety of labor, triage, and recovery rooms in addition to 2 operating rooms and 1 procedure room. This unit serves patients with low and high-risk pregnancies alike, providing care for those with pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, bleeding concerns, and fetal disease among other conditions. Both medicated and unmedicated labor is supported through a variety of techniques with obstetricians, certified nurse midwives, and family practice physicians performing deliveries. Characteristic duties of our staff nurses include but are not limited to:

• Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
• Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
• Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
• Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
• Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses
• Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response
• Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
• Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care
• Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions

Percent of Time: 50-100% Schedule: 20-40 hours per week, D/N or Straight Nights, every third weekend, holiday and on-call as assigned Rotations: Rotating days off, every third weekend, holiday rotation, on call as assigned Location: John Pappajohn Pavilion (6JPP) Salary: $60,000 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate *This does not include differentials. Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort.* Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours.
