Design Sales Specialist

Salary Range: $21.00 per hour

About the Opportunity:

Wayfair is reinventing the way customers shop for their homes by bringing our extensive assortment, technology, and design expertise into an engaging in-store experience. As our Stores business continues to grow, our Design Sales Specialists help customers turn ideas into beautiful, functional spaces while building relationships and driving sales.

In this consultative design sales role, you'll combine interior design knowledge, customer relationship management, and proactive selling to understand each customer's style, space, budget, and project goals. You'll use Wayfair's assortment and digital design tools to create personalized solutions, from individual furniture selections to complete room transformations.

This is a hands-on sales role for someone who loves helping customers solve design challenges and is equally energized by generating opportunities, following up on projects, managing a sales pipeline, and confidently asking for the sale.

What You'll Do:

• Build relationships with customers through personalized design consultations focused on their style, space, functionality, budget, and project goals.
• Proactively generate leads through sales floor engagement, outreach, referrals, follow-up, and re-engagement of past customers.
• Create thoughtful design solutions across furniture, décor, textiles, lighting, and other home categories using space planning, color theory, styling, and product expertise.
• Develop curated product recommendations, quotes, mood boards, and 2D/3D room visualizations that help customers confidently bring their vision to life.
• Manage an active pipeline from initial consultation through follow-up and purchase, identifying opportunities to expand projects and earn repeat or referral business.
• Use Wayfair's digital tools, design software, point-of-sale systems, and online assortment to compare options, research alternatives, and access products beyond the showroom.
• Take ownership of finding answers and alternative solutions when product, design, or project questions arise.
• Maintain organized and inspiring design spaces while supporting merchandising, replenishment, customer service, and other store operations as needed.
• Collaborate with teammates across the store to deliver a seamless customer experience and contribute to overall store performance.

What You'll Bring:

• 2+ years of consultative, high-ticket, relationship-based, or design sales experience.
• 1+ year of experience in interior, architectural, graphic, or related design.
• Experience prospecting, generating leads, and creating sales opportunities.
• Comfort managing a sales pipeline, following up with customers, creating quotes, and asking for the sale.
• Working knowledge of design principles such as space planning, color, textiles, styling, and product selection.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, organization, and customer service skills.
• A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to stay organized and persistent as customer projects progress.
• Comfort using design software, digital tools, mobile devices, and point-of-sale or customer management systems.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Sales Productivity: $500 sales per hour
• Protection Plan Attachment: 15%
• Quote-to-Close Conversion: 75%
• Average Project Value: 1,500– 2,500
• Opportunity Generation: 10–20 opportunities per week

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to independently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
