Veterinary/Surgery Technician – Full-Time or Part-Time

The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach is looking for an experienced, compassionate Veterinary/Surgery Technician to join our clinic team. We are open to full-time or part-time candidates and are willing to work with the right person to find a schedule that works.

This position plays an important role in providing veterinary care to the homeless animals at our shelter while also supporting the affordable veterinary services we provide to pets in our community.

What You’ll Do:

• Assist our veterinarians with spay/neuter and other surgical procedures
• Prepare patients for surgery, including restraint, sedation and surgical prep
• Monitor patients under anesthesia and throughout recovery
• Place IV catheters, draw blood and administer medications as directed by the veterinarian
• Maintain accurate medical and surgical records
• Prepare, clean, sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
• Assist with vaccinations, testing, preventatives and basic wellness services
• Safely handle dogs and cats of different sizes, breeds and temperaments
• Monitor shelter animals for medical concerns and communicate changes to the veterinary and shelter teams
• Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary clinic and surgical environment
• Help with inventory, medications and clinic supplies
• Jump in wherever needed—we’re a shelter, so teamwork is a BIG part of what we do!

What We’re Looking For:

Previous veterinary technician experience is strongly preferred, and surgical and anesthesia experience is especially important for this position. We need someone who is confident in a clinical setting, pays attention to detail and understands the importance of excellent patient monitoring and care.

We’re also looking for someone who is dependable, compassionate, communicates well and can handle the sometimes fast-paced and emotional nature of shelter medicine.
