Assistant Director of Graphic Design (HR Title: Graphic Designer I)

Southern Methodist University’s Athletics team is seeking an on-campus, in-person Assistant Director of Graphic Design to strengthen SMU athletics branding through thoughtful visual storytelling. In this role, you will help develop recruiting graphics, campaign assets, identity materials, and a range of print and digital deliverables, with additional support for photography and game day coverage as needed. What you’ll do Design creative, visually compelling graphics for internal and external communications that help elevate athletics programs, student-athletes, and departmental initiatives. Partner with athletics teams, coaches, and campus stakeholders to produce visual assets that support promotion of programs, events, student-athletes, and departmental priorities. Provide photography support for recruiting, marketing, and communications across the athletics department by capturing dynamic imagery aligned with a consistent visual identity. Assist with home game day coverage, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Travel as needed for game day and championship coverage (up to 25% of the time ). Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree required . 1 year of professional experience in graphic design required. Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate across the University and build effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Strong written communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and analyze issues and devise solutions. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills. Strong typography, layout, and branding skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite platforms including Photoshop and Lightroom is essential. Sit for long periods of time. Preferred qualifications A degree in graphic design or a related field. Experience working with a college or professional athletics department. A working knowledge of After Effects , Illustrator , and/or InDesign .
