Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA)

APRN Faculty Position

The Division of Gastroenterology & Nutrition in the Department of Medicine, Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio has full-time openings for an APRN faculty. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient-centered care and innovative, team-based practice.

The selected candidate will provide outpatient clinical care at the UT Health San Antonio – Gateway Clinic, supporting both Hepatology and General Gastroenterology patient populations. This role ensures continuity of care across a broad spectrum of digestive health conditions while working collaboratively with subspecialty physicians.

Clinical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Management of complex hepatology conditions, including chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, and metabolic liver disease.
• Management of general gastroenterology conditions, including GERD, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), functional GI disorders, and colorectal cancer screening and surveillance.
• Performing comprehensive physical examinations and obtaining detailed medical histories.
• Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic imaging studies.
• Developing and implementing treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Assisting in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as appropriate.
• Coordinating care services including vaccinations, infusions, diagnostic testing, and specialty referrals.
• Providing patient education and counseling on disease management and preventive care.
• Supporting care transitions and longitudinal disease management.

This position also offers opportunities for clinical teaching and involvement in program development, with a focus on improving patient access, care coordination, and standardization across hepatology and gastroenterology services.

Position Qualifications:

Candidate will preferably have at least one to three years of prior experience in acute and chronic disease direct patient care management. Applicants should be prepared to manage a wide range of complex problems presenting in an outpatient setting. Texas licensure and board certification as an acute care nurse practitioner is required.
