JOHNSBURY Wastewater Operator Position The Town of St. Johnsbury is seeking a motivated and dependable Wastewater Operator to join our Wastewater Department. This position plays a vital role in protecting public health and the environment by assisting with the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the Towns wastewater collection and treatment systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Operate and monitor wastewater treatment processes and equipment. Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of pumps, motors, valves, generators, and related equipment. Collect samples and conduct laboratory testing as required. Monitor and record operational data to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Inspect and maintain sewer collection system infrastructure, including pump stations and sewer lines. Assist with snow removal, grounds maintenance, and general facility upkeep. Maintain accurate operational and maintenance records. Participate in an on-call rotation and work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in wastewater treatment, utility operations, mechanical maintenance, or a related field preferred. Vermont Wastewater Operator Certification preferred; candidates without certification must be willing and able to obtain certification within two years. Basic knowledge of pumps, motors, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment. Ability to work safely in confined spaces and around wastewater treatment equipment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, regulations, and operating procedures. Basic computer skills and ability to maintain electronic records. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and public service.
